Chesapeake’s YUPO Corporation America Joins North America’s Sustainable Printing Organization

CHESAPEAKE, VA – March 20, 2018

YUPO Corporation America has joined the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership, (SGP), as a Silver Level Patron.

SGP is the leading authority in sustainable printing certifications for print manufacturers. Through its patronage, Yupo joins other print industry leaders dedicated to promoting sustainability, supporting the aims of SGP and keeping costs low for certification of print facilities.

“Supporting SGP not only aligns with Yupo’s corporate sustainability functions, but demonstrates the company’s leadership and advocacy for sustainable print operations,” according to Marci Kinter, Chair SGP Technical Committee. “Although SGP does not certify Yupo products, it does recognize the role the company plays within the print value chain.”

“Yupo believes that taking responsibility means more than just meeting minimum requirements. As a new member of the SGP Community, we hope to further the goal of less waste, not just for our planet’s future generations, but for today,” said Bill Hewitt, marketing manager, Yupo Corporation America. “Joining forces with SGP helps us achieve better sustainability gains in the industry and as part of our environmental commitment to Hampton Roads.”

YUPO® Synthetic Papers are the premium synthetic solution for a variety of marketing, design, packaging and labeling needs. YUPO is a sustainably sensible material that is 100 percent recyclable and completely “tree-free” thereby preserving forests, water and natural resources. Made using eco-friendly manufacturing processes, YUPO requires relatively little water, energy and chemicals to manufacture. While not biodegradable, YUPO is free of poisons and heavy metals, and contains no plasticizers.

Patrons such as Yupo are not obligated to serve specific roles or responsibilities, but SGP has avenues for voluntary participation by all members of the community – printers, patrons, brands and resource partners. According to Kinter, Yupo has expressed ideas on co-producing with SGP possible webinar programs on the processes involved in producing synthetic paper, its conservation during printing and eventual recycling lifecycle.

“We also look forward to working on the various committees within the organization as well as becoming an ambassador for SGP throughout our print community and our local market,” said Mike Licata, Yupo’s director of business & technical development.
Editor’s Note: “Yupo” or Yupo Corporation America refers to the company; YUPO® Synthetic Papers or “YUPO” (in caps) refers to the paper produced by the company. The two are not interchangeable.
