The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (the MCG Group) hereby announces that the Group’s bio-based engineering plastic DURABIO™ has been adopted by Shiseido’s global luxury brand- Clé de Peau Beauté, for the container of La Créme, the brand’s iconic high-performance cream. The product was released by Clé de Peau Beauté on September 21, 2022.
DURABIO™ is a bio-based engineering plastic made from the renewable plant-derived raw material isosorbide. Its use can reduce the consumption of petroleum, which is an inexhaustible resource, and can also contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases since the plant that makes the raw material absorbs carbon dioxide during the growth process. Additionally, DURABIO™ has superior performance compared to conventional general engineering plastics in terms of impact resistance, weather resistance, etc. Furthermore, with high transparency and superior optical properties enabling low-distortion transmission, the plastic supports elegant and beautiful design expression.
Clé de Peau Beauté pursues to unlock the power of a woman’s radiance based on its philosophy. The brand commits to sustainable product development in line with its goal of shaping a better future, particularly by helping to empower women and girls around the world while unlocking their innate radiance. The recent adoption of DURABIO™ for Clé de Peau Beauté resulted from clear alignment between the cosmetic brand’s concept and the chemical product’s superior performance. Taking advantage of the plant-derived material, we will enhance the packaging design so as to express radiance and strength more effectively.
Through the development of DURABIO™, the MCG Group will continue to supply high value-added products, and contribute to creating a sustainable society.
