Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Masayuki Waga) today announced that two of its subsidiaries, Mitsubishi Chemical Agri Dream Co., Ltd., and Wuxi Lingyang Green Agricultural System & Technology Co., Ltd., concluded a strategic partnership on September 6 with ShenYang Qiushi Agricultural Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd (Shenyang Qiushi; Head office: Liaoning Province, China; Chairman of the Board: Bing Luan) to cooperate on their plant factory system business.
ShenYang Qiushi, a plant nursery company with a strong network in northeast China, introduced a plant factory system provided by the two MCC subsidiaries in 2018. It produces 5 million seedlings and 60 tons of leafy vegetables a year. Details of the strategic partnership are as follows:
(1) The two MCC Group companies will deliver China’s first plant factory system for tomato and strawberry cultivation to ShenYang Qiushi;
(2) After delivery, the system will serve as a tomato and strawberry demonstration farm;
(3) ShenYang Qiushi will cooperate with the two MCC subsidiaries to promote sales of their plant factory system in northeast China and Mongolia.
China’s consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables has increased in recent years, and attention has shifted rapidly to ensuring a safe, secure food supply. More and more Chinese consumers are starting to adopt the habit of eating a fresh vegetable salad as a side dish, even as meat consumption increases. Consumers are also increasingly prepared to purchase premium, high-added-value vegetables. As a result, MCC regards China as an important strategic market.
MCC aims to enhance its plant factory business further in China through its strategic partnership with ShenYang Qiushi. Through investment and partnership, the Group will continue to work proactively to develop its business by tapping growing demand in the burgeoning Asian market.
